Governor Stitt declares state of emergency in 12 counties following severe weather

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Governor Kevin Stitt issued a state of emergency for 12 counties after more than a dozen tornadoes touched down Saturday.

The executive order reads, in part:

Due to impacts from severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, hail, and flooding beginning April 27, 2024 including extensive damage to power lines and infrastructure, it is necessary to assist and expedite all efforts of relief.

The state of emergency will temporarily suspend requirements for size and weight permits of oversized vehicles that transport materials and supplies for recovery efforts, relief and power restoration.

The state of emergency will be in effect for 30 days.
